Extracting Solar Energy from Regional Metered Power Data

Abstract:

Our project uses metered power data from Southern California Edison to measure solar generation and to estimate the solar capacity in a region. This solar analysis provides data for behind-the-meter energy production as opposed to estimating the production from known installation. Using data from the National Renewable Energy Lab in conjunction with metered data, we compensate for irradiance and temperature effects and ultimately measure daily solar production. Additionally, yearly-scale analysis in our region of study shows an approximately 45 MW increase in solar capacity from 2013 to 2018.
