March 13, 2016

In light of recruitment week, I thought it would be a great opportunity to talk about what drove me to join Greek Life here at Oxy! When I first told my friends and family about my decision to participate in the Greek system, I was bombarded with an array of questions, the main one being why I wanted to go Greek in a smaller campus.

Hey what’s up y’all! So spring break is coming up, which is just…thank god. I know we’ve only been back for about a month, but with everything that has been happening this semester, it feels like we’ve been here so much longer! Anyways, with spring break approaching, it means that midterm season is officially upon us.

Choosing which classes to take can be overwhelming, and if you’re like me, there is no clear path of courses to take because you aren’t sure what you want to major in yet. It’s a big question that needs to be answered by the end of your sophomore year, and it’s something that always is in the back of your mind.

This semester I am taking Economics 101, my first step in completing my economics major! The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for an hour and a half, a bit longer than Monday, Wednesday, Friday courses. Real talk: college is so much fun. The people, the parties, the teammates and the teachers are all amazing. But I’m going to let you in on a little secret: even studying is fun here at Oxy. Last Saturday was Oxy’s annual MLK Day of Service. This year we had a total of 20 different sites, and the volunteer activities ranged from gardening to mentoring.

Well folks, it’s second semester here at Oxy! I survived my first semester of college, including all the craziness that has come with it. The highs, the lows, and the in-betweens have been well worth the laughs and late nights. Furthermore, I survived my first semester of the Cultural Studies Program, or CSP as we first years affectionately call it.

Happy New Year, everyone! I’m looking forward to all the adventures this year has in store, but it’s going to be hard to beat the way 2015 ended for me. That’s because this December, after classes ended, I was lucky enough to get to take a week-long trip to Japan as a member of Oxy’s delegation for the Kakehashi Project.

Last year around Thanksgiving I wrote a post titled ‘8 Reasons I’m Thankful For Oxy.’ I decided to write a sequel to this post, as it is a full year later and I find new reasons to love this school every day.

Choosing a major can seem extremely daunting in the beginning. I still vividly remember my college application process, and not knowing which major I wanted to select as my choice of study. It was a frightening experience, just because I felt as if I were committing to something that I wouldn’t want to commit to later.
