I have played since I was three-years-old and my life seemed to always revolve around hockey until one day it didn’t. I had always played at a high level and was being recruited by the BCHL until unfortunately, due to a high number of concussions, I had to make the choice to no longer pursue that dream.
Though all excellent places for blog writing, I’m actually sitting by the Danube river in Budapest, Hungary! What?? No, I didn’t decide to jet across the world for a weekend, I decided to jet across the world for a semester. That’s right people, I’m studying abroad in the beautiful city of Budapest.
But here I am, in my senior year, the president of Alpha Chi Sigma. Alpha Chi Sigma (AXS) is a national professional co-ed fraternity based in Chemistry.
Never in my whole life have I done anything of the sort. Since 4th grade I’ve been dancing: ballet, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, pom, really just anything you could throw at me. I even ran track and played soccer and basketball for a little while in high school. But Rugby is different.
The most underrated thing on campus: The Bengal Bus. The Bengal Bus is a free shuttle service that operates within a 7-mile radius around campus. From trips to Target to the Staples Center, we are here for you whether you need shampoo, or a ride to see the Lakers.
I live with two lovely roommates from very different backgrounds and parts of the world. They are intelligent, kind, and generous. And while I can understand the perspective that living with friends may result in either too much time together or make for easier fights, I have yet to experience either in our room.
Let’s be real, Texas is very different from L.A.! The weather, the culture, the people, and the food; it’s not like back home. However, don’t be pushed away by that. Living in L.A. has been one of the best experiences of my life, and I’m sure it will be for you also.
The upcoming weeks leading up to move in and orientation can be a blur of emotions, but don’t worry! I am here to provide some overview of how to make the transition process easier. It is normal to be nervous about this big change in your life and preparing yourself can minimize some of the nerves.
My second semester of 2016, as a recently declared psychology major and a first year, I knew nothing about research. However, I did know that in order to explore the field of psychology and what it offered, I had to take advantage of the opportunities provided.
