Alec Arellano's research and teaching interests include liberalism and its critics, Ancient Greek political thought, American political thought, contemporary democratic theory, constitutional law and theory, and American politics. His current research examines Alexis de Tocqueville and John Stuart Mill's views regarding the conditions under which critical, independent thought can be a salutary force for democratic politics, and puts their reflections on this theme into conversation with contemporary political thought.
